Our Projects - Successes
Hellenic Home for the Aged
We are proud to announce that in November 2005, we
presented the Hellenic Home for the Aged with a cheque
for $100,000, completing our $250,000 commitment towards their
"Proud to Care" campaign in a
record three years, two years ahead of schedule!
The funds are allocated towards the
new 128-bed long-term facility at Kennedy & Lawrence in Toronto, ON.
Chair in Hellenic Studies York University, Toronto, Canada
The Project
As its first major project, the Hellenic Heritage Foundation pledged to raise $2 million to establish
Toronto's first permanent Chair in Hellenic Studies, a project that was successfully completed with a
cheque presentation to York University in December 2002.
The Hellenic Heritage Chair in Hellenic Studies enables students (including more than 1,000
students of Greek descent enrolled at York University every year) to study the Greek language, culture
and civilization.
Since its inception, the program has grown extremely popular, with higher than expected
enrollment. Under Professor Thomas Gallant's guidance, the Chair has been directed to new heights, offering Canada's
first graduate program in Hellenic Studies.
The Endowed Chair
The highest honour in academic life is an endowed Chair. The Hellenic Heritage Chair in Hellenic Studies
is attracting and retaining senior scholars that contribute to the creation of knowledge in Hellenism
and heighten the reputation of York University as a whole. The acquired funding provides a salary for the
incumbent as well as research and scholarly support, library acquisitions and graduate student fellowship funding.
